The facial nerve (number VII cranial nerve) functions as the nerve for taste from the anterior 2/3 of the tongue. The nerve for the posterior 1/3 of the tongue is the glosso-pharyngeal nerve (number IX cranial nerve).
The facial nerve (number VII cranial nerve) also functions as the nerve for salivary glands.
The trigeminal nerve (number V cranial nerve) functions as the nerve for sensation of the oral cavity, such as the food temperature (hot/cold), or pain from oral injury.

The nerve that functions for facial sensation is the trigeminal (number V cranial nerve), while the nerve for facial muscle movement (facial expression, including orbicularis oculi muscle) is the facial nerve (number VII cranial nerve). Movement of facial muscle include the wrinking the forehead, puckering the mouth, lifting the corner of the mouth, etc. Thus, with facial nerve paralysis, the corner of the mouth is lowered and saliva is likely to flow out.

The nerve that functions for closing the eyelid with the orbicularis oculi muscle is the facial nerve (number VII cranial nerve), meanwhile, the nerve for opening the eyelid with the levator palpebrae superioris is the oculomotor nerve (number III cranial nerve). The nerve for the lacrimal glands and crying is also the facial nerve (number VII cranial nerve). The trochlear nerve (number IV cranial nerve) functions as the nerve for superior oblique muscle and the abducens nerve (number VI cranial nerve) functions as the nerve for eyeball abduction. The oculomotor nerve (number III cranial nerve) functions as nerve for all other muscles that move the eyeball.
