If the optic pathway is damaged before the optic chiasma, only the eye of the damaged side will lose vision. But if the damage takes place at or after the optic chiasma, because of reasons mentioned in the former steps, both eyes will lose vision in half of the visual fields. Such a symptom is called hemianopsia.
