Large amount of chemical energy including the nutrients are now inside the cell. Cell (connecting atoms into one molecule)removes the chemical energy from the nutrient. This breaks down the nutrient,which becomes a degradation product. The cell becomes active by consuming the removed energy. This process is the energy metabolism.The removal of chemical energy is shown in red arrow, and the break down of nutrient in green arrow.
