Although calcitonin is important in the storage of calcium in bone it has relatively little effect on blood calcium levels. |
An Introduction of Calcitonin
Calcitonin is a hormone that it released from the C cells of the thyroid gland. Unlike thyroid hormone it is not produced in the follicular fluid and it is not under the influence of TSH.
The synthesis and release of calcitonin is stimulated by an elevation in the levels of free calcium in the blood.
