Saltatory conduction is the mode characteristic for the myelinated fibers. The conduction speed is high.

In myelinated fibers, action potentials are generated only at the Ranvier node. Thus, in saltatory conduction, the speed is fast. The conduction speed of the non-myelinated fibers are slower than that of the myelinated fibers.
