The adrenal medulla, just like the sympathetic post-ganglionic neuron, releases catecholamine. Unlike the heart, adrenal medulla is innervated by acetylcholine from the sympathetic pre-ganglionic neuron.
Adrenal medulla is not innervated by the parasympathetic nerves. Adrenal medulla is a kind of sympathetic post-ganglionic neuron. The catecholamine released is mainly adrenaline. Adrenaline is released to the blood.
