In the ascending pathway for sensation of temperature and pain, the first sensory fiber, after entering the spinal cord from the posterior root, immediately synapses with the cell body of the secondary sensory neuron. The fiber of the sendary neuron crosses the right-left midline immediately at the spinal nerve level, and ascends the spinal cord on the contralateral side. This pathway is called the spinothalamic tract.

Challenge Quiz

1.

Sensation of temperature and pain travels through the spinothalamic tract. posterior column-medial lemniscus pathway. corticospinal tract (pyramidal tract) .

2.

Sensation of temperature travels through the spinothalamic tract. posterior column-medial lemniscus pathway. corticospinal tract (pyramidal tract) .

3.

Sensation of pain travels through the spinothalamic tract. posterior column-medial lemniscus pathway. corticospinal tract (pyramidal tract) .

4.

In the pathway for the sensation of temperature and pain, the 1st.2nd. 3rd sensory neuron ascends the spinal cord.

5.

For sensation of temperature and pain, the pathway enters the spinal cord from the anterior.posterior root, does. does not synapse immediately afterwards, and ascends the spinothalamic tract. posterior column-medial lemniscus pathway. corticospinal tract (pyramidal tract) of the same.opposite side of the spinal cord; it synapses in the thalamus. hypothalamus , travels through the basal ganglia.internal capsule. limbic system , and reaches the primary somatosensory cortex. primary motor cortex in the precentral gyrus.postcentral gyrus in the frontal. temporal.parietal. occipital lobe.
