Classification of muscle
The muscles of the human body may be broadly classified into three types.
1. Skeletal muscle. These are the muscles that are involved in movement of the skeleton (eg. biceps and quadriceps), breathing (diaphragm) and other movements (eg. eye movement).
2. Cardiac muscle. The muscle of the heart.
3. Smooth muscle. These are the muscles that surround many of our internal structures (eg. blood vessels, trachea, gastro-intestinal tract, uterus, bladder).
