A nutrient including a large amount of chemical energy is now inside the cell. Cell removes the chemical energy (connecting atoms into one molecule) from the nutrient. This breaks down the nutrient, as connection is removed.  Cell activity consumes the removed energy. This process is the energy metabolism.
