The synaptic transmitters of pre- and post- ganglionic neurons of the autonomic nerves are known. In both the sympathetic and para-sympathetic nerves, the transmitter from the pre-ganglionic neurons at the ganglia, is the acetylcholine. At the sympathetic post-ganglionic nerve ending, noradrenaline, also known as norepinephrine is released to the innervating organs. At the parasympathetic post-ganglionic nerve ending, acetylcholine is the transmitter.
NOTE: There are cholinergic sympathetic post-ganglionic neurons, in which the transmitter is acetylcholine, such as in sweat glands.

Challenge Quiz
In sympathetic pre-ganglionic neurons, acetylcholine noradrenaline is released, and in sympathetic post-ganglionic neurons, acetylcholine noradrenaline is released .
In parasympathetic pre-ganglionic neurons, acetylcholine noradrenaline is released, and in parasympathetic post-ganglionic neurons, acetylcholine noradrenaline is released.
Acetylcholine is the synaptic transmitter in (excluding the cholinergic) sympathetic pre-ganglionic neuron (excluding the cholinergic) sympathetic post-ganglionic neuron parasympathetic pre-ganglionic neuron parasympathetic post-ganglionic neuron
Noradrenaline is the synaptic transmitter in (excluding the cholinergic) sympathetic pre-ganglionic neuron (excluding the cholinergic) sympathetic post-ganglionic neuron parasympathetic pre-ganglionic neuron parasympathetic post-ganglionic neuron
Catecholamine includes acetylcholine adrenaline (epinephrine) noradrenaline (norepinephrine) .
