The Thick Filament

Myosin is the predominate protein in the thick filament.

TheMyosinMolecule.jpg

Myosin may be separated into 3 distinct regions. The tail, the hinge and the head. The head contains the binding site for actin and an ATPase. The hinge allows for movement of the myosin head. The tail anchors the myosin molecule into the thick filament.

The thick filament is made up of 100’s of myosin molecules. Note orientation of the heads at either end.

Challenge Quiz

You must wait for the CORRECT! 正確!

<GIFT> //LEVEL:2 //RAND The thick filament is made up predominately of {=myosin~actin}.

//LEVEL:2 //RAND The myosin head binds to {ATP only~actin only~=both ATP and actin~it’s tail}.

//LEVEL:2 //RAND The myosin hinge connects the head to the tail {=True~False}

//LEVEL:2 //RAND The myosin tail wiggles in order to move the muscle {True~=False}

//LEVEL:2 //RAND The thick filament is organized with the heads of the myosin molecules {in the middle~=at either end}
